My experience with the violin started in the public school where I flourished throughout my middle and high school years leading the violin sections. It was at this time, I was also exposed to Suzuki instruction. My college years were at the University of South Florida in Tampa where I studied with Dr. Carolyn Stuart, professor of violin. There I earned my Bachelor & Master of Music degrees specializing in violin performance. Throughout those years, I also trained in The Suzuki Method of teaching & attended various workshops to enrich my teaching expertise. One of my most memorable experiences was at the Starling-Delay Symposium at Juilliard for violin teachers 2006. At Julliard, throughout college, & at the many workshops I attended, I observed teaching masterclasses with musicians such as Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zukerman, Rhonda Rider, Chin Kim, Katie Lansdale, Janice Martin, Kevin Lawrence, Scott Kluksdahl, David Ying, Carol Rodland, Sheila Browne, Glenn Dicterow, Cornelia Heard, Carolyn Huebl, the Julliard faculty, and Mark O’Conner–fiddling great to name a few.
Early childhood education is the new chapter to my teaching. After having my own 2 children, I became interested in teaching music to them at birth. I am excited to start this branch of my music studio to include the babies, toddlers, & PreK’s. It is such a perfect prelude to my Suzuki studio or to any other formal music education. I have taken certification programs with Musikgarten, Orff, & Suzuki Early Childhood Education.
Before having children, I didn’t feel comfortable teaching children under age 5. Somehow, I knew that my own children would teach me how to open that door. Oh, how true and what a joyful experience it’s been! I am delighted to finally offer music education to children from age 0 through high school and beyond.
